CLINICAL RADIOLOGY ST1 2027
Clinical Radiology ST1 recruitment 2027: MSRA, portfolio and interview
MSRA progression, then verified portfolio and interview for final rank.
NHS England requires a score above a minimum cut-off stated as 201 on each MSRA component; meeting that stage does not guarantee an interview.
Revised recruitment claims checked 17 October 2026; unchanged baseline claims were checked 15 October 2026. PassTheMSRA is an independent commercial revision provider. Follow your specialty guidance and Oriel messages if rules change.

Key dates
- Applications: 22 October 2026, 10am to 19 November, 4pm UK time.
- MSRA first window: 5–20 January 2027; results no later than 17 February.
- Interviews: 11–17 March 2027, excluding weekends; initial offers by 6 April.
- Status pending: portfolio upload opening/closing and programme-preference dates are to be confirmed on the official timetable. Follow Oriel for personal deadlines.
Eligibility and the MSRA stage
- Eligibility: read the 2027 person specification, including the limit of 18 months whole-time-equivalent prior Radiology experience, excluding Foundation modules, by the post start.
- MSRA progression: eligible applicants must take the January first window; previous scores are not accepted. The recruitment page says applicants must score above a minimum cut-off stated as 201 on each of the two components. Do not turn this into an invented “≥201” rule. Interview capacity can still limit invitations.
- Portfolio evidence: enter claims and exact supporting evidence in Oriel. The supporting-information section cannot be changed after submission. Applicants invited to interview or placed on shortlist reserve may be asked to upload proof. Check the current portfolio guidance, including changed wording for domains 1, 4 and 5.
National prioritisation applies at interview invitations and offers; clearing the MSRA stage alone does not establish appointability.
Interview, appointability and final rank
- Interview appointability: the process uses two virtual stations of up to 15 minutes. The official page says interview scores determine appointability; portfolio does not decide this gate.
- Final rank: after that gate, the published weighting is 30% verified portfolio + 70% interview. MSRA is a progression stage, not a stated component of this final weighting.
- Offer: an appointable applicant must still match a post through rank and preferences.
How to prepare
Work on two tracks now: CPS/PD practice for the January assessment and a carefully evidenced portfolio. Use the official practice paper to find decision gaps. Store proof against the exact current rubric, rather than relying on a strong MSRA score to compensate later. Review the interview format before shortlisting so the March window does not become a surprise.
